Reclaimed Stone DrivewayOur client lives in an old corn mill, there was only one choice for the drive to enable it to take on the character and compliment the old building. A natural sandstone sett, was used, like you might see on the streets of any old mill towns. The borders of the drive had a blue granite sett laid to add detail to the edge and ground lights illuminate the walls at night. The property is far from any street lights and this provides a warm welcome home on a dark night and also provides a little extra security.
The reclaimed setts that were chosen for this project usually arrive dirty and have old bitumen stuck on them, therefore they needed cleaning. Every single set you see hear was chipped clean, pressure washed, sized and then laid in each particular row according to its size, and so creating the courses. This then gives the drive a uniform appearance, yet uses all the sizes which arrive on site. The pointing to all the joints was injected with our pneumatic pointing system. This injects the mortar deep into the joint providing a full and solid joint. The driveway now has a great welcoming feeling to it, as you arrive at the property. The colours of the natural stone along with the texture of the setts provides a feeling of quality with a link to the past.
